DIALOGUE

- Tomorrow is mum’s birthday, do you remember?
- Oh, yes, of course, I remember!
- Well, let’s buy her a present!
- Sure! Do you have any ideas?
 - Well, something  beautiful… But not very expensive. How about... ten yellow baby chickens?
- Chris, are you joking?
- Why not? It’s only 35 dollars! And chickens are really amazing!
- Mum doesn‘t like chickens! She likes clothes!

AMAZING FACTS ABOUT FAMOUS PEOPLE

Mozart was a great composer. But he wasn’t a practical man. When he composed music, he got a lot of money for it. For example, for his opera The Marriage of Figaro, he got 3000 florins ($60,000 in today’s money). But he spent a lot of money too. He bought his wife a lot of expensive clothes. They lived in a luxury apartment, they had servants (слуги) and often went to a spa (it was very expensive). One day he bought a billiard table for 300 florins ($6000 in today’s money). At the end of his life Mozart had very big debts (/ДЕТС/ – долги). He died when he was only 35 and was buried in a common grave (был похоронен в общей могиле). His wife Constanza sold her husband’s manuscripts to pay his debts.

Ivan Krylov was a very famous Russian poet. All Russian children know and love his works. He had a very strange (странное) hobby. He loved to look at fires (пожары). If a fire started, Ivan’s friends called him and he went to see it. Also, Mr Krylov loved eating.  One day poet Dmitry Khvostov said: “Please come to dinner and listen to my new poems”. Krylov didn’t like Khvostov, but he came. At dinner he ate 3 or 4 portions of soup, one chicken, several (несколько) big pieces of meat and 10 or 15 piroshki. Then Khvostov asked him to come to the salon and listen to his new poems. But Krylov didn’t go to the salon. He lay on the sofa (лег на диван) and slept until the evening (проспал до вечера). At the end of his life Krylov weighed 150 kilograms. One day he ate too much (слишком много) and died.

SONG - Don't Worry Be Happy

Here's a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry, be happy

In every life we have some trouble
But when you worry, you make it double
Don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy now

Ain't got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
Don't worry, be happy

The landlord say your rent is late
He may have to litigate
Don't worry (Ha-ha ha-ha ha-ha)
Be happy (Look at me, I'm happy)

Ooh-ooh-hoo-hoo-ooh ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Don't worry
Be happy

(Here, I'll give you my phone number
When you're worried, call me
I'll make you happy)

Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style
Ain't got no gal to make you smile
But don't worry, be happy

'Cause when you're worried, your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down
So don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy now
